About the Practice
Dr. Himanshu Agrawal
Founder, Shanti Mental Health Center

After serving various corporations for decades, Himanshu found himself disillusioned with the health care industry and decided to start practicing medicine again. He founded Shanti Mental Health Center in 2025 to provide individualized, compassionate, evidence-based in-person and virtual mental health care across the state of Wisconsin.

We offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and individual psychotherapy in a warm, private setting. Our approach is you centered β€” together, we will work to create a biological, psychological and social treatment plan to help you return to being you.

Our secure digital platforms ensure you receive personalized care even before your first visit.

What We Offer

Comprehensive Clinical Assessment

Validated rating scales administered before each visit through our secure patient portal, so you may hit the ground running at your first visit.

Medication Management

Ongoing psychiatric prescribing and monitoring, including monitoring labs per world class community standards.

Individual Psychotherapy

As a trained psychoanalyst, Himanshu will help you find the right cadence β€” whether it is one session per week sitting up (psychodynamic psychotherapy) or 5 sessions per week laying on the analytic couch (psychoanalysis).

Telehealth

HIPAA-compliant video appointments via secure platforms (DrChrono / OnPatient).

Family Sessions

Because no person is an island. Because no person suffers — and recovers — alone.

Who We See

Ages 6–17

Children & Adolescents

After completing his child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship in 2008, Himanshu was blessed to start his career at a trauma-informed, patient-centric non-profit residential treatment center, where he received exceptional mentorship in neuropsychological and psychometric testing, and had the privilege of serving and learning from his young patients β€” from Reactive Attachment Disorder to Autism Spectrum Disorders, from Early Onset Schizophrenia to rare cases of pediatric mania. What a launching pad for the decade in academia that followed!

Ages 18+

Adult Psychiatry

Ever since Himanshu completed his fellowship and his 8 year long psychoanalytic training, he has never seen an adult β€” only children who have grown up. Most psychiatric conditions amongst adults have roots in childhood, and Himanshu’s teachers and mentors have ensured that he sees every story through a nuanced, developmental lens. Thanks to his innate restlessness, Himanshu has had the good fortune of serving people with almost every psychiatric disorder in the DSM 5 β€” Anxiety disorders, Autism, ADHD, Adjustment disorders, Bipolar disorders, Bereavement, Conversion Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Eating Disorders, Narcolepsy, Neurodevelopmental, Post Traumatic Disorders, Psychosis and Tic disorders, to name a few.

Our Approach

Psychodynamic Psychopharmacology

Coined by my friend and mentor, Dr. David Mintz, the approach of psychodynamic psychopharmacology is rooted in the belief that true healing occurs not just from medication adjustments, but also from understanding together what taking — or not taking — medication means to you. This truth will be as individual as you are, and will be treated with the utmost dignity and respect.

Treat distress, not diagnoses

A philosophy of care

I always teach my students — never offer treatment to “fix” a diagnosis. Offer treatment so that the patient you serve may return to their developmental tracks.

Don’t treat
ADHD
Instead

Help John so that he may stop getting in trouble at school and at home, and may thrive in life.

Don’t treat
Depression
Instead

Help Jane so she may smile, enjoy her hobbies again, and get that promotion she deserves.

Don’t treat
Bipolar Disorder
Instead

Help Xavier so that they may find their life partner and stop using alcohol as a crutch.
